Chiyoda Accomplishes Engineering Industry First - Acquires ISO 27001 Information Security Management System Certification for All Head Office Operations

Press Release Feb 05, 2008

Chiyoda Corporation (TSE:6366 ISIN:JP3528600004) has acquired third-party certification under the international information security management system (ISMS) standard ISO/IEC 27001:2005 (JIS Q 27001:2006). The certifying agency was BSI Management Systems Japan K.K. The certification covers all head office operations from engineering, including R&D, to project management, procurement and related operations, and administration. Chiyoda is the first company in Japan’s engineering industry to acquire companywide certification.

Over many years conducting engineering, procurement and construction projects for all types of plants and facilities in Japan and overseas, Chiyoda has built a stock of management and technical information, as well as the privileged information assets of clients, licensors and joint venture and other business partners. Securely and suitably protecting and maintaining these assets, and using them effectively, is essential to the smooth execution of Chiyoda’s engineering projects. Since its establishment, Chiyoda has worked to maintain and apply information security manuals. In 2001, the Company constructed an ISMS framework that conformed with the British standard BS 7799, a precursor to ISO 27001, and in 2007 created an ISO 27001-compliant framework to maintain and improve information security.

Aiming to be the “Reliability No. 1” company, Chiyoda determined the need for objective confirmation of its ongoing efforts to establish and enhance information security in all areas of operation. On December 16, 2007, Chiyoda acquired third-party certification under the ISMS standard ISO/IEC 27001:2005 (JIS Q 27001:2006).

With this certification as an objective evaluation of its information security, Chiyoda expects client and stakeholder trust will increase and its ability to compete for contracts and execute projects will further improve. Chiyoda will establish and entrench an information security management culture that involves all employees by promoting the spread of ISMS throughout the Company, enhancing information security education, and with other initiatives. At the same time, the Company will strengthen its ISMS by maintaining certification and undergoing renewal inspections, thus further increasing trust in its information security.
