Our Strategic Rationale
Plant-based production systems offer a unique advantage: they enable the complete animal-free manufacturing of high–molecular weight proteins with complex structures that are difficult to produce using microorganisms. However, large-scale plant-based production platforms have yet to be fully established in Japan.
To bring this production approach into practical, real-world use, it is essential to develop a fully integrated, end-to-end manufacturing system. Leveraging our strengths in the integration of diverse technologies and scale-up capabilities, we provide solutions that seamlessly translate our clients’ research achievements into successful commercial applications.
Plant-based Material Production System
By adopting a production system based on transient expression technology, it is possible to significantly shorten the time required for substance production using recombinant plants—from the conventional 6–12 months to approximately 1–2 weeks, from gene introduction to the acquisition of the target substance.

Chiyoda has constructed a demonstration facility for plant-based material production at the Koyasu Research Park in Yokohama as part of the NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) project, 'Development of Bio-based Product Manufacturing Technologies to Accelerate Carbon Recycling.'
Utilizing this facility, we are launching Japan’s first Plant Biofoundry, offering comprehensive services that support everything from expression testing of valuable substances and production process development to sample manufacturing and scale-up studies.
