Microbial Biotechnology Business
Expanding our Business by Providing ‘One-stop’ Customer Services from Process Development – Scaling-Up – EPC – Production Support
Chiyoda’s experience includes the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of pharmaceutical plants with large scale-up potential, for manufacturing bio-pharmaceuticals such as vaccines and antibodies, and our aim is to expand our business into the following areas:
- Delivering superior process development proposals to customers, incorporating support for setting culture conditions, optimizing equipment selection (eg: fermenters and bioreactors), process enhancement through simulation, scaled-down system infrastructure and production support
- Supporting facility conversion, alteration and periodic maintenance
- Operation through AI technology and Digital Transformation (DX)
Chiyoda has implemented the following initiatives:
- Developing technology* to establish a strategy for faster scale-up, including establishing/selecting large-sized fermenters and scale-up/scale-down systems from laboratory-scale bioreactors through simulation;
- Testing digital technologies for applicability based on data obtained by simulation-analysis and culturing.
- The following actions have been implemented under a collaborative study with the Bio Manufacturing Laboratory of the Osaka Institute of Technology.

The Chiyoda laboratoy has been established within the Shonan Health Innovation Park (Shonan iPark).
We are conducting data acquisition on cultured model strains using a laboratory-scale (2L) bioreactor and performing of the physical properties of culture media using a viscometer.

- Basic data through various culture conditions
- Experimental verification of differences between developmental distribution and stagnation part(s) due to differences in aeration and agitation conditions
- Accumulating analysis data acquired through simulation
- Construction of a culture digital twin capable of simulating culture results
- EData is reflected in process improvement/operational support proposals to customers
