For a Stable Supply of Copper: Essential for a Decarbonized Society

Copper: Essential for a Decarbonized Society

Demand for copper is anticipated to rise as the world transitions to a decarbonized society, due to its superior electrical conductivity applicable to electric vehicles and renewable energy production facilities.

The World’s Largest Single Line Production Capacity Copper Smelting Plant

This project is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the world’s largest single line Flash-Flash production capacity copper smelting plant in Gresik, East Java province, Indonesia. The facility, comprising a smelting plant, electrolyzing plant, sulfuric acid plant, industrial waste water treatment facility and other facilities, will produce up to 48,000 tons of electrolytic copper per annum with copper ore from the Grasberg Mine, owned by PT Freeport Indonesia, a Chiyoda customer, in Papua province, Indonesia and will be completed in 2024. Our environmental conservation expertise has been maximized in compliance with the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Chiyoda Group worked as One Team with the client and all parties involved to complete the construction.

National Strategic Project

The project is regarded as a national strategic project in Indonesia due to their advanced economic security strategy utilizing abundant mineral resources, and Chiyoda welcomed President Joko Widodo at a production launching event.
