Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex

In Vietnam, automobiles and motorcycles have proliferated amid rapid economic growth, and domestic demand for petroleum products has been growing. The robust domestic demand was met by Dung Quat Refinery, the only refinery in Vietnam, and imports. Now, the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex project, the second refinery in Vietnam, has been launched to　increase domestic supply.

At the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, crude oils from Kuwait (heavy oils) will be refined to produce petroleum products such as diesel and jet fuels and high value-added petrochemical products such as polypropylene, paraxylene and benzene.

Chiyoda engaged in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work of the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, as part of a consortium with JGC Corporation, Technip in France, SK Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. in South Korea and GS Engineering & Construction Corp. in South Korea.

Nghi Son is located in Thanh Hoa Province in the North Central Coast region, about 200 kilometers south of Hanoi. Thanh Hoa Province is one of the economically disadvantaged regions that suffered massive damage from the Vietnam War. As such, the narrowing of the economic gap with other regions has become important. The construction of this refinery and petrochemical complex has contributed to the vitalization of local communities and the stable supply of petroleum products in Vietnam.
