Early mechanical completion of the world’s largest ethylene plant
This project was the construction of the world’s largest ethylene plant (as of completion), with a production capacity of 1.8 million tons per annum, and associated utility facilities for Gulf Coast Growth Ventures (GCGV), an ExxonMobil/Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) joint venture.
We commenced Front End Engineering design (FEED) in 2018 and continued to strengthen our relationship with the customer and our partner, Kiewit Energy Group Inc. (Kiewit), through Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), achieving mechanical completion one month ahead of schedule in 2021. Early completion was achieved by working together as `One Team’ to deal with challenges such as the global COVID-19 pandemic.
For the first time in the world, a full modular construction strategy was adopted for the ethylene plant, minimizing site construction activities in the Gulf Coast region of the USA and enabling Chiyoda to maximize their engineering expertise and project management capability.
