Chiyoda is conducting the Front End Engineering Design (FEED)* for a CO2 Separation and Capture Facility at the Hokkaido Refinery in Tomakomai for Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd (Idemitsu Kosan).
Through Public Solicitation by the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC), Idemitsu Kosan, Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) and Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Inc. (HEPCO) (Three Companies) have been entrusted to execute ‘Engineering Design Work for Advanced Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Projects’, relating to the design and related works for the CCS project in the Tomakomai area of Hokkaido for FY2024.
Following a Feasibility Study conducted in FY2023, the Three Companies were selected to conduct ‘basic engineering design for a CCS value chain’ and ‘assessment on CO2 storage potential at the planned CO2 storage site’ for the CCS project, aiming to launch CCS projects by the year 2030 in the Tomakomai area.
The Three Companies will advance technical studies regarding CO2 separation, capture, transportation and storage as part of the ‘design work in the CCS value chain’ to decide project implementation.
Chiyoda was awarded the FEED work by Idemitsu Kosan and actively supports the implementation of the CCS project by conducting the FEED for the new facility to separate and capture CO2 at the Hokkaido Refinery (an emission source) and revamp existing facilities.
